Future vision · not yet a physical village

Affordable regenerative village

Belonging should not be a luxury.

We are researching a village model where restored land, simple beautiful homes, shared resources, meaningful work and human care make regenerative living more accessible, not an enclave only for the wealthy.

A direction to investigate together, not a promise that land, permissions or funding already exist.

Aligned hearts, souls and hands

Help a regenerative village take root.

Our New Earth eco-village vision grows through relationship: people who want to restore land, grow food, share skills, create beauty and care for one another. We welcome conversations with potential partners, collaborators, land stewards and people who could help fund the next phase.

Tell us what calls you and what you would love to bring. Together, we can explore a practical next step.

Our big why

Live the world we long to see.

We dream of a regenerative sanctuary, village and learning centre where living systems can be seen, felt and practised: food forests, cared-for water, organic growing, restorative spaces and businesses that help people and place thrive.

A place to live, demonstrate, learn and inspire. Somewhere wonder meets useful work, and opening our hearts also means showing up with our hands.

Nobody is perfect all the time. We are learning our way out of habits shaped by an industrial, chemically intensive culture, toward healthier food, cleaner water and more thoughtful ways of living. We want honest progress, kindness and shared responsibility—not judgement or a purity contest.

We are searching for land and aligned partners. Bring your skills, your questions, your willingness to learn, or your capacity to support the next phase.

Where this stands today

The seed is real. The village is future work.

The Living Library, public guides, community channels and Benjy’s land work exist now. No final village site, legal structure, planning permission, capital plan or resident offer has been announced. Those foundations must be researched transparently before invitations or financial commitments are made.

Before our answer, your questions matter.

What future do you want to help make real?

What feels most important for you to see emerge? What have you seen work, and what have you seen fail? What would you protect, regenerate or build differently? What would help you feel at home, useful, free and connected?

We want these questions at the beginning because a living village should not be designed only around the founders’ answers.

Why now

A decade of learning in motion.

Between our individual journeys and our journey together, roughly the past decade has been a living education across parts of Asia, six to seven years in Australia, time in Colombia and around two years living and working in Portugal.

Experience

Learning from real places

We have lived in, worked with, visited or learned from regenerative farms, ecovillages, intentional communities, retreats, grassroots initiatives, land projects, educators, founders and leaders carrying very different models.

Humility

We do not claim mastery

We have seen beautiful successes and difficult failures: inspired founders, exhausted founders, clear agreements, fragile governance, hidden labour, unresolved conflict and money quietly becoming more important than purpose. That experience taught us which questions need to be asked early.

The call

Ready for the next step

We feel called to help create this now with the right team. That may mean founding Awakening Eden on the right land, co-creating with an existing project, or joining an aligned startup or regenerative village if the deeper purpose is better served together than separately.

A circle with roots

Belonging grows through what we do together.

The village vision is a living invitation: to join practical land regeneration with learning, care, culture and livelihoods that help people and place thrive.

We imagine gardens, orchards, water-wise landscapes, natural building, education, restoration, youth empowerment, sanctuaries and regenerative enterprises connected by real relationships. This artwork is a symbolic vision, not a depiction of a built Awakening Eden village.

Explore ways to work together

A living lineage of learning

Ancient wisdom. Living practice. Emerging science.

Awakening Eden is not the origin of these ideas. We are part of a much older and wider conversation. We want to learn from living cultures, land-based traditions, regenerative practitioners, ecovillages, farmers, scientists, builders and communities; credit the roots of what we learn; test it humbly in place; and share useful learning back.

Living lineages

Indigenous + ancestral wisdom

Indigenous peoples and living knowledge traditions are cultures and relationships, not content to extract. Where knowledge is shared, we seek consent, attribution, reciprocity, fair exchange and right representation, while keeping each lineage in its own context. We also value local Portuguese, Mediterranean, Celtic and European land traditions carried by living people.

Regenerative practice

Learn from what has already been tried

Permaculture, natural farming, syntropic agroforestry, regenerative agriculture, ecological restoration, intentional communities and long-lived ecovillages offer decades of experiments. We want to weave what works, learn honestly from what failed, credit the projects and teachers, and keep evolving together rather than pretending we invented the pattern.

Science + open inquiry

Curious at the frontier, grounded in evidence

We follow ecology, microbiome and systems biology, soil and water science, and emerging quantum biology. Quantum effects are studied in photosynthetic energy transfer, radical-pair chemistry and molecular tunnelling. We stay curious without using “quantum” as decoration or as scientific proof for spiritual claims the evidence does not establish.

We learn with, not take from.

Co-creation is part of the method.

We do not claim this wisdom as ours. We want to name and link teachers and projects where possible, ask permission when living cultural knowledge is shared, compensate and reciprocate where appropriate, stay open to correction, and contribute our own learning back into the commons.

Zach Bush’s Biological Renaissance, Roots Rural and ORIGIN / ourorigin.earth are contemporary inspirations in this wider field, especially their emphasis on relationship, regenerative action and ancestral wisdom meeting modern science. They are inspirations, not claimed affiliations unless a real partnership is created.

For us, syntropy is also a social and economic question: can this relationship increase the capacity of the whole? We do not want fear, scarcity or zero-sum rivalry to organise the culture. Healthy boundaries and real constraints still matter, but our direction is symbiotic thriving: collaboration, fair exchange, shared learning and enterprises that strengthen one another.

Our compass

Imperfectly practising a regenerative life.

Not a purity code. A direction we can keep returning to, testing and improving together.

  • Regenerate, do not merely sustainAsk whether decisions leave soil, water, people, animals, community and future generations more capable of renewal.
  • InterbeingHuman wellbeing is inseparable from the wellbeing of the wider living system.
  • Care for all beingsCompassion, non-exploitation and species-appropriate care guide how we relate to animals, people and ecosystems.
  • Freedom with responsibilityPrivate space, autonomy and voluntary participation belong beside clear boundaries, shared stewardship and accountability.
  • Organic + place-based livingStrive toward healthy food, low-tox materials, repair, reuse, local craft, bioregional systems and ecological building where practical, without turning them into purity tests.
  • Learn, credit + co-createHonour knowledge lineages, name sources, reciprocate where appropriate and evolve with others rather than claiming ownership of shared wisdom.
  • Purposeful abundanceBusiness, capital and technology should strengthen life, livelihoods and the Commons rather than capture them.
  • Progress over perfectionExpect mistakes. Build cultures of feedback, repair, humility, transparency and getting better together.

A regenerative living economy

Income that gives regeneration more hands, time and reach.

For-purpose does not mean anti-business. A resilient village needs multiple ethical income streams so people can build livelihoods, skilled work can be paid fairly and the ecological mission does not depend on hidden labour or permanent fundraising.

  • Land + restoration workRegenerative land design, water retention, food forests, orchards, ecological landscaping, implementation and project management.
  • Farm + nursery + foodRegenerative produce, seeds, plants, nursery systems, farm-to-table experiences and an organic or superfood café where viable.
  • Education + apprenticeshipsWorkshops, practical trainings, the Regenerative Future School, restoration camps, guest teachers and research residencies.
  • Retreats + aligned accommodationWellbeing stays, learning journeys and ethical visitor experiences where legally and ecologically appropriate.
  • Culture + gatheringMarkets, music, arts, community events and future regenerative festivals sized to place.
  • Digital + resident enterprisesThe Living Library, Eden Designer, courses, media, tools, specialist partnerships and independent resident businesses aligned with the shared covenant.

Purpose before property.

Decentralised where practical. Accountable where necessary.

Purpose lock and decentralisation should be practical, not ideological. We want subsidiarity: decisions made as close as possible to the people, place and domain affected, with distributed roles, transparent accountability and shared authority where law, safety or whole-community impacts require it.

The final legal form remains open. Before land acquisition, independent best-fit Portuguese specialists in property, planning, tax, cooperative or community law, accounting and insurance should help design and review the structure and safeguards for mission drift, land transfer, investor rights, anti-capture, conflict and appeal, healthy exits, succession and transparency.

The design brief

Eight relationships to design together.

  • Land as a living trustStewardship structures that protect soil, water, biodiversity and future access beyond one owner’s lifetime.
  • Affordability by designSmaller footprints, shared assets, mixed tenures and transparent costs, not hidden subsidy or unpaid labour.
  • Water, fire and ecology firstRead catchments, geology, access, drought and wildfire before placing buildings or promising productivity.
  • Homes that belong to placeClimate-wise, repairable, healthy materials and modest energy needs, shaped by Portuguese law and local craft.
  • Care across generationsChildren, elders, disability, privacy, conflict support and rest treated as infrastructure, not afterthoughts.
  • Meaningful local livelihoodsFood, education, land care, repair, craft, wellness and digital work held within ecological limits.
  • Capital in service to lifeExplore transparent partnerships with aligned investors, philanthropists and regenerative enterprises so money becomes a tool for restoring water, habitat, biodiversity, community capacity and long-term stewardship, with clear governance before any financial invitation.
  • Commons with clear boundariesShared spaces and resources paired with explicit rights, responsibilities and accountable governance.

Landscape

More life each year

Increasing living cover, infiltration, biomass, soil function, shade, habitat and food resilience while respecting water limits and succession.

Community

Freedom and interdependence

Enough privacy for people to breathe; enough shared life for care, learning, meals, tools and celebration to become easier.

Economy

Access before prestige

Test cooperative, commons, land-trust and hybrid models against real Portuguese law, costs, risks and inclusion outcomes.

A village is a web of relationships.

Research first. Invite carefully. Build in phases.

We will keep evidence, aspirations, decisions and unresolved questions visible as this path develops.
